The EZDown uses a hydraulic damper to provide comfortable opening and hands-free lowering of the ute tailgate. When closing the tailgate, the damper has only the forces to overcome friction inside it and this is not felt as a weight difference in the tailgate, this is due to the geometric design.

It is also designed for easy and quick disconnecting purposes for example when loading abnormal proportionate loads to the vehicles load bin. The damper can process very high traction forces which slows the speed of tailgate descent.
